Synopsis
Nine noble families fight for control of the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after millennia of silence. Martin’s wife once said she would leave him if he killed Arya or Sansa. What’s the general opinion?
Main Title (Unlisted) Written and Performed by Ramin Djawadi. Let’s say you’re reading these reviews and haven’t seen GoT yet, but are considering a binge-watching marathon now that it’s over. In this case, the consensus is correct, which is: Seasons 1-6: Excellent. Deep world building, intelligent dialogue, epic scenes worthy of Hollywood, professional acting, detailed plot, genuine surprises, a great soundtrack used sparingly.
GoT is definitely worth watching for these seasons
Season 7: Suddenly it becomes clear that the quality of the script and plot has significantly declined. There are inexplicable ideas, inconsistent characterization, and soap opera drama. But at least the entertainment value is still very high, so you can let it go. Season 8: This descent falls to depths you never thought possible.
Fatal for fiction
The script has become so amateurish that the still-great production values are no longer enough to keep it alive. If you ever enjoyed Lost but were shocked by the poor quality of last season, you’re on familiar ground here. The biggest problem with last season was that it took us out of the story and made us think about its many flaws. We’ve lost our desire to believe in it.
So can I recommend a GoT marathon for beginners?
It also ruined the series’ story arcs to the point where it’s pointless to rewatch the entire series. Yes, the first 6 seasons are worth the later disappointments. But it’s not the best series of all time. It could have been, but because it failed at home, it falls behind the following better series that are more worthy of your marathon: Battlestar Galactica (2003-2008) Twin Peaks (all 3 seasons plus the movie) Breaking Bad
